Overview
Worked on a small but mighty team to design and launch over 30+ pages introducing Microsoft's latest fleet of Surface devices for the holiday season. I created high-fidelity web experience prototypes for multiple new Surface devices and accessories. The prototypes were presented to senior management for review and ultimately served as visual references for development of the live site.
Challenge
Working within Microsoft's established design system, we had to produce a large volume of product experiences on a compressed launch schedule while marketing copy, photography, and product assets were still evolving. The prototypes also needed to simulate the buying experience convincingly enough for stakeholders to evaluate the experience rather than the presentation itself.
Approach
I built and retouched device imagery in Photoshop, recreated UI components and product carousels, and selected lifestyle photography to support the marketing message. These elements were assembled in PowerPoint, using established templates to maintain consistency and accelerate production.
PowerPoint became an interactive prototyping tool, allowing stakeholders to click through realistic buying journeys using software readily available across the organization. Precise positioning from slide to slide was critical to creating a seamless experience.
Throughout review, I incorporated feedback from senior leadership and art direction, adapting imagery and copy while maintaining the established design system.
Outcome
Once approved, the prototypes were provided directly to developers as references for the live Surface experience. I remained involved through launch QA, testing links, reviewing implemented pages, and updating provisional imagery as final photography became available.
The project demonstrated how an unconventional tool could be pushed beyond traditional presentation design to create polished, functional prototypes for a major product launch.
